Babbacombe in Torquay
The views from the famous Babbacombe Downs are spectacular, perfect for an early morning or evening stroll. A steep walk down the cliff path (or the short railway ride for the more relaxed) is well worthwhile to enjoy the long stretch of quiet beach below. Beach shops, café and the local sailing club are all housed near the beach. Babbacombe itself is home to three superb fish and chip shops and Babbacombe theatre which puts on some great summer shows.

Maidencombe in Torquay
The coastal farmland and woodland around the village of Maidencombe has changed very little over time and is now managed under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme to protect the wildlife and encourage enjoyment of the area. There is good access to this sand and shingle beach but it can get quite steep in places. Once at the beach, there are limited facilities but they do include toilets and a café serving all sorts of refreshments.

Torre Abbey Sands, Corbyn Head Beach located in Torquay
A delightful cove surrounded by rock cliffs on one side and traditional beach huts on the other. This is a favourite family beach serving the main resort town of Torquay. Sandy and rocky, toilets, disabled facilities. The beach is off the main road through Torquay, close to the railway station.

Paignton Sands in Paignton
The long sandy beach, friendly atmosphere and great choice of facilities at Paignton Sands attracts families looking for a traditional seaside resort. The shallow sea is ideal for paddling and with pedaloes and boats for hire, hours of fun can be had in the clean, safe waters. Entertainment is the key feature of this beach with activities and events guaranteed to entertain the family throughout the year. Paignton boasts an annual regatta, carnival and funfair and right throughout the year the fun filled pier, variety of amusements and choice of shops and cafes will keep the family happy. Next to the beach is the bustling Paignton Green offering the perfect spot for a game of football or cricket and in the summer months there are a number of exciting family events staged here. At the southern end of Paignton there is a lively harbour offering countless boat trips along the dramatic Devon coastline.

Goodrington South Sands in Paignton
In the heart of the Quaywest resort area, this wide and sandy beach is well served with excellent facilities. The beach itself is lined with amusements to keep the whole family busy, including the Seashore Centre, Quaywest Waterpark, Youngs Park and Inn. There is a popular deck chair hire on the beach and excellent low tide rock pooling to be enjoyed.

Preston Sands is a popular sandy beach lined with Paignton's famous multi-coloured beach huts. Deckchair and sunbed hire are available for those who wish to bask in the summer sun. Access to the beach is good, however, parking is restricted, so get there early to secure your spot.

St Mary's Bay in Brixham
Access to St Mary's Bay may be difficult but if you persevere you will find a delightful sandy stretch of beach at the bottom of the cliffs. The coastal path above the beach offers panoramic views of the area. The famous fishing spot, Sharkham Point, is nearby and in Brixham's attractive harbour fishing boats can be hired or fishing trips arranged. This is an ideal centre for touring Devon, visiting places of interest such as Buckfast Abbey, Exeter Cathedral, Dartington Hall and, of course, Dartmoor National Park.

Blackpool Sands Start Point nr. Dartmouth
An unspoilt picturesque cove at the northern end of Start Bay. This crescent of coarse golden sand 2/3 mile long is flanked by steep, wooded cliffs. Very popular among the families, the beach has a dog restricted area along with first aid and lifeguard facilities. Fishing is a favourite activity enjoyed at Blackpool sands. Stretches of lush countryside empowers the beauty of Blackpool Sands which remains a jewel amongst the beaches of the South Hams.
