Welcome to Vane Hill Care home.

A specialist unit providing short and long term residential care and rehabilitation for sufferers of alcohol related problems such as Korsakoff's Syndrome.

The home provides care and accommodation for persons aged 40 years and over in two units adjacent to each other.

Unit one can accommodate up to 14 service users whose main problems arise from Alcohol, Past and Present. Unit two can accommodate up to 18 Service Users suffering from Mental Health problems relating to the Over intake of Alcohol. Korsakoffs Syndrome (involving short-term memory loss) and Wernick's Syndrome (involving paralysis of eye movements and sudden sleepiness) are among the many physical and mental ailments that can stem from alcohol misuse.
(We are not equipped to care for people whose main needs require Physical care ie Wheelchair users, or persons with Mobility Problems.)

The buildings are both fine Victorian residences with lovely gardens and adjacent woodlands, set above the harbour with delightful views of Torbay. Our central position means Meadfoot Beach, Beacon Cove and the town centre are all within minutes walk. All facilities you would expect for your own comfort are provided, with an open view to brining your own belongings if you wish.

All bedrooms are fully furnished with nurse call system, washbasin, television and fire detectors and doors. Mature gardens and rockeries are designes so that clients can give a hand to our garndener or enjoy the sun on the patio. We want everything we do in the home to be driven by the needs, abilities and aspirations of our residents, not by what staff, management or any other group would desire. We recognise how easily this focus can slip and we will remain vigilant to ensure that the facilities, resources, policies, activities and services of the home remain resident-led.
